Presentation

The teaching of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bologna, among the first in Europe, began in 1784.

The Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences (DIMEVET), in carrying out its fundamental tasks of teaching, research, and third mission, operates daily according to the One Health principle. Its work addresses the complex and delicate issues of animal health and care, veterinary public health, food safety, quality and sustainability of animal production, animal biology and welfare, translational medicine, animal biotechnologies, the human–animal–environment relationship, the evolving perception of animals in society, and veterinary bioethics.

Since 2000, DIMEVET has been ISO 9001 certified.

Since 2014, DIMEVET has been the first in Italy to obtain accreditation from the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE).

Following the Research Quality Assessment in Italy (VQR 2015–2019), DIMEVET ranked second among Veterinary Medicine Departments nationwide and 200th in the overall ranking of all university departments, as defined by ANVUR.

“Very high team spirit, cooperation and motivation between staff, students and stakeholders”: this acknowledgment of excellence by the EAEVE Commission highlights how DIMEVET, consistently with its recently redefined vision and mission, systematically pursues and monitors its future objectives.
